It’s a sad day for NVIDIA Shield TV owners as the company has announced the end of the GameStream service. This popular feature, which allows users to stream PC games from the cloud in 4K at 60 fps, will be discontinued via a planned update scheduled for release in mid-February 2023.

While Shield device owners can still use the GameStream until then, it is no longer supported and will eventually stop working. NVIDIA suggests using alternative options such as Steam Link or GeForce NOW to stream games to their devices. Steam Link is compatible with a variety of devices including PCs, Android phones, and tablets, and can support 4K streaming. NVIDIA Share can also be used in conjunction with Steam Link.

It’s worth noting that users can still skip the planned update and continue using the GameStream for a yet-to-be-announced period of time. However, it’s important to note that NVIDIA Games and GeForce NOW will eventually need an update to continue working after the scheduled update.

It’s unclear why NVIDIA is discontinuing the GameStream service, but it’s certainly a disappointment for Shield TV users. The Shield TV models, including previous generation devices, are known for their excellent gaming capabilities and NVIDIA’s extensive support. It’s a shame to see the GameStream service go, but at least there are alternative options available for those who want to continue streaming games to their devices.

It’s worth noting that while the GameStream service will no longer be available on the NVIDIA Shield TV, the device itself is still a fantastic choice for gaming enthusiasts. It’s powered by the Tegra X1 processor and supports 4K HDR playback, making it one of the best streaming devices on the market for both movies and games.

Additionally, the NVIDIA Shield TV has a number of other features that make it a standout choice for gamers. It supports a wide range of controllers, including the Shield controller and the new Shield Pro controller, and offers access to a variety of popular streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video. It’s also compatible with NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW cloud gaming service, which allows users to stream a library of over 1,000 games to their devices.

Overall, while the end of the GameStream service is certainly a disappointment for Shield TV owners, the device itself is still an excellent choice for those looking to enhance their gaming experience. With its powerful processor and wide range of features, it’s a top choice for both casual and hardcore gamers.
