We are in the middle of a 10x multiplier weekend for the new secret, much-derided community quest that is the first step of “The Lie,” a journey to get a Destiny 1 Iron Banner shotgun that…does not require playing any Iron Banner.
Rather, players have been tasked with completing 3 million Seraph Tower events per planet, and we are getting close to the end now, so much so where I can pretty much guess when this is going to be done.
The current numbers as of this morning are as follows:
EDZ: 100% (3 million)
Moon: 86% (2.6 million)
Io: 19% (560,000)
Yesterday the Moon was at 33% when I woke up, so it was about 50% completion for a full 24 hours. As such, my estimates are the following:
Best case scenario: We could finish this late tonight (Sunday) if the Moon wraps up in the next couple hours and there’s a big community push to get to Io so we can knock this out.
Medium case scenario: Sunday night is too tight and instead it takes until Monday morning with the international crew pitching in a bit when us Americans are sleeping.
Worst case scenario: This is finished by Monday later afternoon/evening, which may be a bit delayed due to possible issues with Io instancing (it does not help that both Asher and the Bunker are in the same zone, causing less people to be there for the actual bunker). But I cannot see it taking much longer than that, and I think the overall pace will pick up when the community realizes there’s only one planet to go. This is also assuming that the “weekend” 10x multiplier extends to Tuesday at reset like Destiny “weekends” usually do.
Ultra worst case? Definitely done by Tuesday, which is a far cry from the weeks or maybe months that the quest was originally going to take without the multipliers and nerfs to the actual activity that Bungie was forced to implement last week.
After this, remember that everyone is not just being handed the gun. There are more steps to this quest but from the datamine, no, none of them are as involved as this rather insane community event. The “longest” one will be 1000 shotgun kills, which I assume will translate to 100 in PvP. Get those charged with light ammo-generating mods ready, I have.
There are some story components to this quest that could be very interesting indeed, though I haven’t dug deeply into them yet to avoid getting completely spoiled. This is the part I am most curious about, rather than another god roll shotgun to throw on the pile.
In any case, if this was how the quest had worked from the start where it was clearly just going to take a week, I doubt we would have had so many issues, but hopefully Bungie learns for next time. But yeah maybe let’s…skip a community quest for a season or two after this, yeah?
